| Twenty years ago, during the height of the Mad Cow hysteria, Oprah Winfrey aired a controversial episode of her popular daytime TV show that significantly damaged beef’s image. On air, she famously declared she had eaten her last hamburger. Some Texas cowboys sued Oprah for defamation and claimed the subsequent drop in cattle prices cost them $12 million. The resulting trial brought a caravan of national TV news teams to the steps of the Amarillo, Texas, courthouse, where Oprah prevailed since the case hinged on “free speech.” Two decades later, we wonder, has time healed the wounds between Oprah and beef?
